Michael Steinbach (1961) is Chairman of the Equens Board of Directors as of 1 May 2007. Before his appointment as Chairman he held the position as Deputy Chairman since the incorporation of Equens on 30 November 2006. He has been spokesman of the Board of Directors of Transaktionsinstitut für Zahlungsverkehrsdienstleistungen AG since July 2003. 

Prior to his appointment at Transaktionsinstitut in 2003 he was a director of DZ BANK AG (Deutsche Zentral-Genossenschaftsbank), where he headed the payments department. During his career Michael Steinbach has gained extensive experience in payments. In 1985 he became head of the electronic payments department at the then"Genossenschaftliche Zentralbank" or GZB-Bank (cooperative central bank) in Stuttgart. Since then he has headed increasingly large and complex payment divisions formed by mergers in the German banking world. Michael Steinbach is a member of many national and international payment committees.
