Sibos 2011 recap
19 - 23 September 2011, Metro Toronto Convention Centre, Toronto, Canada
On Friday, the Sibos 2011 ended. A great exhibition with more than 7400 delegates and a lot of visitors at our booth.
Thanks to all the visitors of our booth for inspiring and interesting talks. Below you can find a summary of Equens' sessions and our contribution to the conference programme.
Sunday 18 September 2011: Business partner event
Our business partner event with around 100 guests took place on Sunday evening. It was a good opportunity for networking, talking to clients and prospects in a relaxed atmosphere. The guest speaker was Miles Hilton Barber whose blindness has not stopped him from overcoming barriers, seeking adventure and going on successful expeditions to deserts, mountains and the Polar Regions. His message was: The only barriers are the ones that you set yourself. Together with the food served by Jamie Kennedy, a cook committed to environmental issues and his support of organic agriculture, local producers and traditional methods, the evening was something our guests will remember.
Tuesday 20 September 2011: Business lunch session with Reggy de Feniks
Reggy de Feniks, author of "Reinventing Financial Services", was the guest speaker at the business lunch session on Tuesday. His exciting speech inspired our appr. 50 guests and made them think about what is crucial for financial services in order to reach the consumers. He showed many examples of banks' and corporates' innovations which aim at fulfilling their clients' needs, e. g. Google Wallet or PayPal. Not only by means of new products, but also by giving their branch offices a more enjoyable appearance. Reggy considers online communities und mobile Apps as more and more important.

Wednesday 21 September 2011: Open theatre session on Corporate Payments Services
Pieter van Mierlo from Equens gave an open theatre presentation on "Relieving corporates from SEPA challenges". Pieter presented the developments of SEPA across Europe and the benefits for both corporates and banks when using Corporate Payment Services (CPS) from Equens. You can find further information about CPS on our website.
Later an open theatre presentation took place on behalf of the International Payments Framework Association (IPFA) of which our CEO Michael Steinbach is Chairman. Elizabeth McQuerry (Federal Reserve Banks' Retail Payments Office) and Manfred Schuck (IPFA) held a joint presentation titled "The bridge between the U.S. and Europe - how the IPFA enables non-urgent payments here". They explained the work and benefits of IPFA based on the existing link between the Federal Reserve Bank and Equens.
Do you want to know more about the IPFA and its work? Visit IPFA's website.
Thursday 22 September 2011: IPFA session with Michael Steinbach
Our CEO Michael Steinbach was one of the panellists in the discussion 'The International Payments Framework (IPFA) has expanded. How and where?'. As Chairman of the IPFA, Michael presented Equens' background and history within the IPFA, the working link between the FED and Equens and the five advantages when using the IPFA. You can find more details in Michael's presentation which is provided for download in the sidebar at the right.
The session was very well attended; around 200 delegates took part and the presentations were followed by a lively discussion.
Apart from the sessions, we announced the opening of a new branch office in London , our 10th inter-CSM agreement with the Bulgarian BORICA-BANKSERVICE AD and the launch of ATM services in Belgium .
