Equens issues and processes its first contactless payments
10-06-2010
Contactless payments are ideal for low-value transactions in environments where speed is essential, for example quick-service restaurants, petrol stations and events. Secure wireless communication solutions have enabled the introduction of a variety of efficient new payment methods, which offer speed and convenience for users.
We have performed all the technical preparations required for a mass roll-out, with the ambition to extend our broad range of payment possibilities with contactless card payments. Our systems are currently able to accept contactless payments made with the international standardised brand Maestro PayPass.
Pilot with ABN AMRO Bank
Together with ABN AMRO Bank and other parties, Equens is participating in a contactless payments pilot. Preliminary results show that user experience is very positive, among both cardholders and merchants. The speed, convenience and ease of use offered by contactless payments make them a welcome innovation.
For managing contactless payments, Equens can provide the whole line of business, from card issuance and management to transaction processing (switching, hosting, clearing). These services are provided for Issuers as well as Acquirers. We are ready for this low-value payment solution, and will continue to focus on extending our payment services with new technologies that offer added value for our customers.
