Two new records already set
30-11-2010
Each year, St Nicholas and Christmas purchases result in peaks in debit and credit card payment processing in the Netherlands. 2010 is no exception. What’s more, on the first busy day in the run-up to St Nicholas – Saturday, 27 November – two new records were set.
Up to 5 p.m. that day, Equens processed 8,732,866 electronic transactions, compared to 8,350,251 transactions up to the same time on Saturday, 28 November 2009.
During the busiest shopping time on 27 November – between 2.30 p.m. and 3 p.m. – a minimum of 381 electronic payments were processed every second. This is also a new record, exceeding last year’s 358 transactions a second.
Christmas
This year the current Christmas record is also expected to be broken. The present record volume was achieved on Wednesday, 23 December 2009, when 10,867,903 electronic debit and credit card payments were processed. Last year’s busiest Christmas shopping time was between 2 p.m. and 2.30 p.m. on 24 December, when a minimum of 408 transactions were processed each second.
